This year, we’re thrilled to have a truly seasoned runner representing The Racing Centre at the 2025 TCS London Marathon – Mark Geddie.
Mark’s marathon story isn’t your average “Couch to 5K” journey. Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, and now proudly calling Newmarket home since 2018, Mark has been running marathons since 1996 and has clocked up well over 100 marathons and ultra-marathons in his time. That’s not a typo – one hundred. And counting.
When he’s not clocking up miles on the roads and trails, Mark works as a licensed aircraft engineer and engineering shift leader at Stansted Airport. It's a demanding job, but one that he balances with the calm focus and discipline of a long-distance runner.
Mark’s approach to running is refreshingly relaxed. For London, he’s not following a strict training plan – just doing what he loves. “I continue my normal running with a few additional long runs,” he says, noting that one of his favourites is running from Newmarket to Cambridge, grabbing a beer, and hopping on the bus home. Sounds like a perfect day out, if you ask us!
But what really stands out is Mark’s love for running with others. “Time and place are unimportant,” he says. “It’s the people.” Whether he’s out with his partner Wendy or enjoying the camaraderie of the local Newmarket running community, Mark is all about the shared experience.
He’s excited for the whole day – soaking up the legendary London Marathon atmosphere that so many Newmarket Joggers have spoken about. And he’s not just doing it for the experience – he’s running to support The Racing Centre, helping to raise funds for this vital community hub.

So what keeps him going on those long runs? Not a pumping playlist or high-tech gear – Mark prefers the sounds of nature, especially the birdsong on the heath or the quiet beauty of the countryside. And post-run? He’ll be tucking into some biltong, a nod to his South African roots.
When asked to sum up how he feels about race day in one word? “Excited.” And we are too – to cheer him on, to support his cause, and to celebrate the spirit of community that runners like Mark embody.
Go Mark – we’re behind you all the way!
