08 Feb New Astley Boxing Club 2018 Annual Show
New Astley Boxing Club 2018 Annual Show
The New Astley Boxing club has been running out of The Racing Centre on Fred Archer Way, Newmarket for over 30 years. More recently under the tutelage of voluntary ABA coaches Mark O’Reilly, Saeed Kobeissi, Roy Carter and their extended team of loyal volunteers who have been providing a safe, fun learning environment for hundreds of youngsters in Newmarket and the surrounding areas. The Boxing Club train (in our main Sports Hall) every Tuesday and Thursday from 6.30pm-8.00pm with an extended programme of training for the more promising carded boxers.
For years the New Astley Boxing Club was run as a voluntary group as part of The Racing Centre. In an exciting change for 2018. England Talent boxing coach Mark and his team have now taken over the independent running of the Club full time, allowing it to extend its reach to the wider community and ensure its long-term sustainability for many more years to come. The Racing Centre is very proud to have played its part in the success of this fantastic club and looks forward to continuing to support it further in the future. Including this year’s Annual Boxing Show – in association with NARS (National Association of Racing Staff)
This years show will include Megan Allen & Raven Dodsworth who will be boxing in their first bouts. Exciting prospect Chloe Hunt, will continue her rapid rise through the rankings. National Champion Dean Allum will be boxing in an Eastern Counties final. As well as two-time National Champion and England representative Demie-Jade Resztan boxing Rebecca Stone (ranked number 4 in the country) . In all there will be 8 of the club’s own boxers on 16 bout show. Harvey Gillham , Jesse Goody and Nathan Atkinson make up the remaining boxers from the club, so it really does stand to be a real showcase of local talent.
Head coach Mark O’Reilly said,
“I’m very proud of the way all our boxers have trained so hard since last years show. We have such a great group of young boxers at a variety of ages and abilities, those that are on this year’s show have really deserved their chance to shine. We have been working with a Strength & Conditioning coach Ian Howell in the Racing Centre’s Racefit Gym that has made a big difference
This years show promises to be the best yet, on behalf of the all the boxers here at the club I invite you join us at The Racing Centre on the 3rd March to support the great local talent on show.
Thank you to all the local businesses that have already signed up to sponsor bouts and a special thank you to NARS who we are partnering with for this event. This type of event wouldn’t be possible without your help. I would like to dedicate this years show to my late nephew Luke O’Reilly, a promising young boxer himself who was tragically taken from us far too early in November of last year”
Tom Lee, Centre Manager commented “The Racing Centre is a community hub for all of Newmarket to use and this is one of many new partnerships being formed here. In addition to our other volunteer led club, The Newmarket Gymnastics Club being under the same roof, over 300 children and young adults are now visiting the centre benefitting from our facilities. It’s great that we can play our part in positively affecting the lives so many children and their families. To be able to host The Astley Boxing Clubs Annual Show is great for the Centre but even more importantly for these young athletes to compete in such a prestigious event. We can’t wait for March 3rd”
